Your Endocannabinoid System and CBD
What is the Endocannabinoid System?
The Endocannabinoid System or “ECS” is a biological system present in all humans. Scientists believe the main function of this system is to maintain bodily homeostasis and that it plays role in a wide range of functions and processes including sleep, memory, mood, appetite, reproduction, & fertility.
Yes, that’s right – if you are a human and reading this, you have a natural cannabinoid system working inside of you now. The system is composed of natural cannabinoid receptors – specifically, two known primary receptors – CB1 & CB2.

Where are the CB1 & CB2 Receptors located?
There are two primary cannabinoid receptors that have been identified:
- CB1 Receptors can be found in your brain, lungs, vascular system, pancreas, reproductive system, & muscles.
- CB2 Receptors can be found in your liver, spleen, pancreas, colon, immune system and even your bones.
How does CBD affect the Endocannabinoid System?
CBD or Cannabidiol is a naturally occurring cannabinoid that is present in hemp. When taken by humans, our CBD interacts with your CB1 & CB2 receptors of the ECS and enables this system to continue to provide homeostasis and wellness for all of the bodily systems it interacts with. These are further detailed by the illustration above.
It is important to note that CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning you will not get “high” or experience any sort of intoxicating effect.
